L4 Autonomous Container Truck in Real Combat | Nearly 5,000 km Zero Accidents: UISEE AI Driver Delivers Impressive Results at Qingdao Dongjiakou Port
On September 1, 2025, two UISEE L4 autonomous container trucks entered normalized trial operation at Qingdao Dongjiakou Port. By the end of March 2026, after more than half a year of normalized AI driver operation, UISEE delivered an impressive real-world performance report at Qingdao Dongjiakou Port: 4,888 km of autonomous driving, zero safety accidents.
Technology Foundation: How Robust Products Support Real-World Operation
Stable operation is backed by robust products.UISEE's L4 autonomous container truck is equipped with the 5th-generation U-Drive® system, featuring 360° surround-view cameras and high-precision multi-line LiDAR, paired with an upgraded intelligent driving controller — ensuring precise and controllable steering, parking, and docking every time. What kind of performance did it deliver in practice? Three words:
- Smooth operation: Smooth navigation through narrow roads within the yard, seamless coordination with quay cranes, yard cranes, and reach stackers, completing full-process automated operations.
- Endurance: Stable operation under extreme weather conditions including heavy fog, rainstorms, and typhoons, running 24/7 day and night, creating more possibilities for efficient port logistics.
- Mixed-traffic capability: The cloud-based intelligent dispatch center integrates vehicle status monitoring and anomaly early warning, supporting multi-vehicle collaborative collision avoidance and dynamic task priority adjustment, enabling safe and efficient operation in mixed-traffic environments with human-operated vehicles.
Key Challenges
UISEE tailored technical solutions for three key challenges identified during the trial operation at Qingdao Dongjiakou Port — yard operation workflow, operating system compatibility, and safety risk mitigation — and overcame each one.
From "Slow" to "Steady" — Optimizing Yard Traffic Efficiency
Under the original mode, autonomous container trucks ran at 10 km/h, noticeably slower than human-driven vehicles at 20 km/h. UISEE increased the speed from 10 km/h to 15 km/h, while deploying a "micro-movement function + camera-based environmental perception" solution, achieving 100% first-attempt alignment success for 20ft containers. 40ft containers can be aligned through remote micro-adjustments without requiring a safety operator to manually takeover the vehicle.

From "Short-Term" to "Long-Term" — Seamless System Integration
There was a compatibility issue between Qingdao Dongjiakou Port's existing intelligent production system and the autonomous container truck dispatch system. UISEE collaborated with the port authority to complete vehicle dispatch system development, with plans to optimize dispatch system adaptability based on the actual operations of quay cranes, yard cranes, reach stackers, safety islands, and other equipment, achieving seamless system upgrades.

From "Intervention" to "Prevention" — Effectively Mitigating Safety Risks
Collision prevention during safety island docking and emergency braking are two critical risk points. UISEE eliminated hidden hazards from both "perception + algorithm" dimensions — deploying enhanced perception equipment in safety island areas and at quay crane edges, achieving a 98% success rate for autonomous container truck safety island docking. Meanwhile, obstacle perception distance was extended from 30 meters to 50 meters, driving algorithms were upgraded, and braking smoothness was improved to reduce unnecessary emergency stops.
